Admission Rules
RESOLUTION No. 5 of the Senate of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń of 27 January 2026 regarding the conditions and procedures for candidates applying to the Doctoral School of Social Sciences at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.
Annex to Resolution No. 5 of the Senate of NCU of 27 January 2026. Contains the evaluation rules used in the recruitment process for candidates to the Doctoral School of Social Sciences for disciplines within the social sciences at Nicolaus Copernicus University.

Who Can Apply?
A person holding a Master’s degree, Master of Engineering degree, or an equivalent degree may apply for admission to the Doctoral School of Social Sciences at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.
In particularly justified cases resulting from high-quality scientific achievements, a person who is a graduate of first-cycle studies or a student after the third year of long-cycle Master’s studies may also be admitted.
Stages of the Recruitment Process
The recruitment procedure is competitive and includes:

registration in the Internet Registration of Candidates (IRK) system – irk.umk.pl,
-
submission of the required documents,
-
the qualification procedure,
-
preparation of the ranking list and announcement of the recruitment results.
Qualification Procedure
The qualification procedure consists of two stages:
Stage I – evaluation of the application documentation, including the research proposal and scientific achievements (0–60 points).
To be admitted to the interview, a candidate must obtain at least 40 points.
Stage II – qualification interview, concerning the research proposal, previous scientific activity, and aptitude for conducting scientific research (0–40 points).
The final position on the ranking list is determined by the total number of points obtained in both stages of the recruitment process.
Required Documents
Participation in the recruitment procedure requires the submission of a complete set of documents within the deadlines specified in the recruitment schedule.
A detailed list of required documents is specified in the Resolution of the Senate of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń on the conditions and procedure for the admission of candidates to the Doctoral School of Social Sciences.
Candidates are required in particular to submit:

an application form generated from the IRK system,
-
an academic CV (including a list of max. 5 achievements),
-
a diploma of completed studies or an equivalent document,
-
a copy of the diploma thesis, if the studies required submission of a thesis,
-
an opinion on the candidate’s aptitude for research work,
-
a doctoral dissertation research proposal,
-
documents confirming achievements and additional qualifications,
-
a current photograph,
-
a declaration of the selected discipline,
-
required statements and consents regarding the processing of personal data.
Documents are submitted electronically within the deadlines specified in the recruitment schedule.
Recruitment Results
The results of the recruitment procedure are published in the IRK system.
Admission to the Doctoral School is based on the ranking list, in accordance with the established limit of places. A request for reconsideration may be submitted against a decision refusing admission.
Candidates admitted to the School are required to submit original documents within 7 calendar days of the announcement of the results. Failure to do so results in not being entered on the list of doctoral students.
